The T40 single-gas detector is primarily designed to protect personnel by detecting the concentration of hazardous gases such as H2S or CO in harsh environments.

The T40 features a rugged engineered plastic housing and a well-protected design, making it suitable for use in unpredictable and challenging climates, such as deserts and the Arctic Circle. Its compact and lightweight design easily clips to a belt, shirt pocket, or hard hat. The large LCD display clearly displays gas concentration, type, peak value, and high and low concentration alarm levels. If the current high or low concentration exceeds the preset limits, the instrument alerts the user with audible, visual, and vibrating alarms.

A peak hold function captures and records readings from the first time the instrument is turned on. Calibration is accomplished with a simple flip-open operation.

The T40 has received China Coal Mine Safety (MA) certification.
